What if nutrition and sophrology were linked? 🧐 Stress is a common cause of weight gain, and can sometimes prevent weight loss as well.

Interview with Sophie Bonneel, at the heart of sophrology

A specific method of stress management, sophrology would apply to nutritional problems, by triggering awareness of the behavioral problem, by mobilizing the organs which govern the food and taste function, through fun exercises. Sophrology and nutrition are two fields that may seem distinct at first glance. Yet many experts agree that these two disciplines are actually closely related. Indeed, nutrition can have a significant impact on our emotional and mental state, just as stress and emotions can influence our eating behavior. In this context, sophrology appears to be a relevant complementary method to support people wishing to improve their relationship with food and their overall well-being. It is with this in mind that we decided to meet Sophie, a state-registered dietician and certified sophrologist, to find out more about how sophrology can contribute to better management of emotions and stress linked to food. During this interview, Sophie gives us her advice and mini well-being exercises, applicable on a daily basis to improve our health and our quality of life.

1. Can we know a little more about you? 😎

My name is Sophie, I am 38 years old, and I am the mother of 2 little princesses, 3 and a half years old, and 19 months old. In 2009 I obtained my dietician diploma, and quickly I worked in a slimming franchise. I was happy to help people achieve their goals, but I began to experience increasing pressure from my boss, being the only employee. So I found a place in a large slimming group. First as a dietician, then as a manager. Along the way, I got married, I suffered a thyroid disorder then I had my 2 pregnancies and finally a burn-out Fatigue, stress, mental load and weight gain, that's familiar to me. Sophrology came naturally to me. Having experienced it myself during my pregnancy and convinced of its benefits, given the results on my well-being, I trained with enthusiasm. Today I am a certified Sophrologist , and I accompany people with kindness, naturalness, without fuss, towards emotional balance, self-confidence and serenity.

2. What is sophrology? 🌸

Sophrology is a psycho-corporeal method, which aims to find a balance between emotions, thoughts and the body. It therefore allows you to learn to manage your emotions, such as stress, by drawing on your resources, thanks to breathing exercises, muscle relaxation and visualization. In short, a 100% anti-stress method, to harmonize. By integrating sophrology with nutrition, it is possible to become aware of your eating habits and your emotions around food.🤗 Sophrology can help better manage food impulses, such as snacking, by identifying the underlying emotions and regulating them through relaxation and breathing techniques. Therefore, sophrology can be a valuable aid in adopting a healthier and more balanced diet by making conscious choices and respecting your body's signals. By learning to know and listen to yourself, sophrology can also help develop a more harmonious relationship with food, strengthening self-confidence and self-esteem. In short, sophrology can be a real tool for well-being, both for the mind and the body.

3. What is the link between sophrology and nutrition? 👩🏻‍⚕️

Chronic stress, anxiety, negative emotions lead to weight gain. Either because we eat too much, or because our body puts itself in a particular state which causes it to store calories, to cope with stressful or anxiety-provoking situations. Studies have shown that it is possible to gain weight from stress without eating more . 🙄 In this case, it is necessary to combine emotional care with nutritional care. Sophrology is an excellent way to effectively contribute to healthy and lasting weight loss. Indeed, stress can disrupt the functioning of our body and induce hormonal changes that affect our metabolism, digestion and appetite regulation. Additionally, stress can also affect our motivation and ability to adopt healthy eating habits, causing us to seek out foods high in fat and sugar to relieve our anxiety. Sophrology can help regulate these emotions and find a more serene state of mind, by promoting relaxation and releasing bodily tensions associated with stress. Visualization techniques can also help build motivation and visualize weight loss goals, which can make it easier to implement healthier dietary and lifestyle changes. 👌🏻 By integrating sophrology into weight loss management, it is therefore possible to work on several levels at once, calming the mind, regulating emotions and promoting a more balanced diet. This helps maximize the chances of success and maintain long-term results.$

4. What do you think of the maju bowl and vision? 🥣

It’s the dietician in me who will answer this question. I loved the maju concept as soon as I saw it. 😍 It seemed so obvious to me. Very often the problem is a question of food quality but also a question of quantity. Wondering if you're not eating too much of this and enough of that generates additional stress when you want to lose weight. Here the question no longer arises, since the compartments do the work for the person. In addition, it's really a question of re-appropriating food, eating is vital, but it's also a pleasure, it's all a question of balance, emotional and nutritional. The concept of the bowl and the maju vision is very interesting from a nutritional and emotional point of view. Indeed, dividing the bowl into several compartments allows for better portion control and ensures that we consume a variety of different foods, which can contribute to a more balanced diet and the prevention of deficiencies. nutritional. Additionally, by reducing stress around food quantities and choices, the maju bowl can help foster a more positive relationship with food and greater enjoyment of meals. By re-appropriating your diet and taking the time to savor each food, you can better feel the signals of satiety and better regulate your food consumption.

5. How to deal with sugar cravings? 🍭

Sugar cravings can be difficult to control, but it's important to understand their origin to better manage them. Sugar has an addictive effect on our bodies, which can make it difficult to do without it. However, most sweet cravings are actually linked to emotions such as stress, boredom or anxiety. By taking the time to identify the source of these desires, it is possible to better manage them.
  • A first step is to differentiate a sugar craving from hunger. You may be hungry and your body needs food. In this case, opt for a healthy and filling snack, like a handful of nuts or fresh fruit. If you're sure it's a sugar craving, take a deep breath and drink a large glass of water. This will allow you to take a break and focus on your bodily sensations.
  • Next, it's important to find an activity that helps you relax and clear your head. Depending on your personality, you can choose a manual activity, like drawing or knitting, or immerse yourself in a good book. If you need to move, take a short walk or practice a short yoga session. These activities will allow you to refocus on yourself and keep the craving for sugar away.

In short, to manage sugar cravings, you need to take the time to listen to your body and understand the emotions that are causing these cravings. By taking a break, finding a relaxing activity and hydrating yourself properly, it is possible to better control these cravings and gradually reduce them.

6. Do you have any advice / mini exercises to recommend to our maju bowlers ? ☀

  • First, breathing, we underestimate the power of good breathing on the body.
  • Place one hand on your stomach and the other on your chest, inhale through your nose, blow out through your mouth. You should feel your stomach rising and falling without your chest moving. Do this exercise for 3 minutes 2-3 times a day, you will quickly see a difference.
  • Then for a flash of relaxation, inhale through your nose and clench your fists very tightly while holding your breath, then blow out through your mouth while stretching your fingers. If necessary, repeat the movement several times.

With these 2 tips, you should be able to face some stressful everyday situations

7. A final word for our bowlers? 🚀
